Masonry Repair

Stainless UK has developed the Grip-Strip, Grip-Tie and Grip-Twist range for repairs to masonry structures required due to the effects of thermal movement, fatigue, overloading or water ingress. Grout and other accessories are available.

The need for repairs to masonry structures often highlights the restricted durability of traditional metals such as galvanised steel. In order to eliminate the need for future repairs, all metallic elements within the repair systems are produced from austenitic stainless steel, grade 304. A key benefit of using stainless steel is the high ductility and resistance to fatigue. This is essential to ensuring that the repair is sympathetic  with the original design principles.

Flexible systems - for where the structural elements are required to exhibit elasticity. A typical example of this would be the arch of a bridge, where the masonry ‘moves´ under loading.

Flexible repairs can be either embedded or surface.
Embedded repairs typically involve drilling into the structure, filling the hole with a resin grout and inserting ties. Recommended product is Grip Tie R consisting of a plain wire with specially profiled ends to provides high ductility with high ultimate loads
Surface repair systems are typically inserted into the horizontal joints to provide stability or to enhance load carrying capacity. Recommended product is Grip Tie F which has a flat central section to provide increased flexibility. Its performance is similar in principle to Grip Tie R.

Rigid systems - for where no movement is expected, or the loading is being increased. A typical application would be as lateral stabilisation to the supports of a bridge.

Rigid repairs can be either embedded or surface.
Embedded repairs typically involve drilling into the structure, filling the hole with resin grout and inserting a stainless steel reinforcement strip. To ensure that the repair is rigid, this strip should allow full bond strength to be developed, and the grout should also firmly adhere to the sides of the hole. Recommended products are Grip Strip R, a continuously profiled round bar provides high ultimate loading, but restricting the allowable flexibility and Grip-Twist, a helical bar providing excellent axial strength and flexibility.
Surface repair systems are typically inserted into the horizontal joints to provide stability or to enhance load carrying capacity. Recommended product is Grip Strip F a continuously profiled strip for use where the main criteria is for improved load carry capacity. The composite core allows limited flexibility and high ultimate strength  under loading.
